The Best Food Groups To Get Pregnant

Scientific studies have shown that a healthy diet significantly improves your chance of becoming pregnant, as does being at a healthy weight. This is true for both women and men, who are working together to create a baby. We have identified the three best food groups to indulge in while you are trying to conceive, that will ultimately keep you healthy and encourage a positive body weight.

Protein-Rich Foods

Protein is an important nutrient for feeding your muscles and improving your overall wellbeing. In women, a good intake can help to regulate the menstrual cycle, which in turn provides regular (and sometimes more) opportunities to ovulate, and conceive. The recommended daily intake of protein (the nutrient itself, not the product that contains it) for women is approximately 50g a day. Make sure to include protein-rich foods in your diet multiple times per day. These foods include: lean meats, eggs (mostly egg whites), beans, fish, chicken, dairy foods and selected nuts (almonds particularly). Including one protein source with your breakfast can help to kickstart your muscles and fat burning processes, too, which can help to lose weight, if need be.

Dairy products are full of goodness to get your body fit and healthy, in preparation for being pregnant. Not only are they a good source of protein, but they contain a significant amount of calcium, which is important for your bones and teeth. In particular, your body holds onto the calcium, and when you do finally become pregnant, your baby will absorb the calcium to build its own bones and teeth and to help in its brain development. Additionally, calcium has been identified as an important factor in the process of kickstarting the growth of embryos, as well as helping the sperm to move faster towards the egg because of the environment that it causes. So make sure that both you and your partner are getting enough dairy food to ensure plenty of calcium in your bodies.

When choosing which dairy products to have, make sure you choose full fat over skim or reduced fat. The good fats have been proven to help increase the egg supply from ovaries, thus increasing your chances of conceiving. While the reduced fat products may help you to lose weight (if you need to) they have been shown to reduce egg production. Try to strike a balance between the two if you are worried about weight so that you can have the best of both products.

Green Vegetables

Green vegetables provide your body with an array of nutrients that are specifically proven to help with fertility and developing a healthy baby. Leafy vegetables (like spinach) and broccoli are rich in folic acid which helps to prevent birth defects in a baby. Plus the iron in these vegetables aides in creating a thick lining of the uterus, which a fertilised egg requires for strong implantation. Broccoli also contains a high amount of Vitamin C, which helps to maintain a consistent ovulation process, so you have more chances of conceiving.
